‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar story is about hope. You, like the little caterpillar, will grow up, unfold your wings and fly off into the future’
Who has childhood memories of snuggling with their mum, dad, grandma or grandad and reading beautiful picture books like ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’? Children love the simple, colourful pictures and the memories evoke a sense of nostalgia for parents and teachers.
Young toddlers enjoy flicking through books, skipping pages and pointing at pictures to be named. Toddlers like to listen to the same book over and over again - so be prepared to read their favourite story many times!
‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ not only teaches children about hope, it teaches maths skills as children count the fruits and learn the days of the week, language skills as children learn the names of different foods and of course, they learn about the life cycle of a butterfly!
Favourite books are a fantastic way to introduce new topics to nursery children and can be used as starting points for expressive arts and design activities like 3D crafts, drawing, painting and role play. Reading can ignite a child’s imagination! Using favourite characters from books for maths activities like counting and sequencing makes learning into play too.
Blossom Burj will be holding a very special reading and craft session for parents and toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years on ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Each child will take home their very own caterpillar!
